Krishna University was founded, Andhra Pradesh Act.No.4 of 1991, G.O 'no. No. 89 Higher Education (UEII) of 25/06/2008 and GO Ms No. 109, Higher Education (UEII) Department of 14/07/2008 in Machilipatnam since the city is the headquarters of the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. On 23/04/08 the then Chief Executive Dr. Y Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation for the university. A feasibility committee headed by Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao visited Machilipatnam for the founding of the university.
